I've been taking Lauren on geek field trips -- computer stores, etc. -- ever since we brought her home from the hospital. Today was a continuance of her geek training. While it's no Star Wars Symphony, American Science and Surplus is a bit of a geek's paradise.
Lauren had a good time taking everything in, as you can see from her photos in the aisle of beakers and the display case of microscopes.
Lauren begged me for a periodical table of the elements to hang on her wall, but I told her she had to settle for some opalescent marbles. Back at the house, we turned those marbles into a fun rattle.
Here are two videos of Lauren enjoying her rattle.

Great "geek" training for our future science genius...and the marbles worked well as a rattle..she seems to enjoy that so.
Love, Gran Saundra
She has no chance. But the rattle of marbles and a used coke bottle was a great idea. I may try that one! :)
Well...Lauren wanted to me to advise you that her rattle is actually a Dr. Pepper bottle. She's somewhat doubtful that coke or any other brand would be anywhere near as satisfying. In true geek style, she's now thinking of filing a patent, to ensure her designs are always properly executed.
But I had a talk with her on your behalf. She decided that Brooks, being stranded "across the pond" and all, was granted a special exception considering his limited access to Dr. Pepper.
Geeks?! Where do they come up with these crazy obsessive ideas?!
P.S. -- Let's wait till Lauren is older before we tell her that Dr. Pepper, that classic Southern U.S. staple was actually bought by a UK-based company in the late 1990s.
