This is one of those shots that I kind of just stumbled into during a bike ride
to the Chicago Botanic Gardens
back in late August. Tucked behind the English walled garden, I came
across this collection of butterflies feeding on these flowers. I fired
off about twenty shots, basically in full manual mode. The shot was taken with
a polarizing filter to cut down on some glare and intensify the blue sky.
My camera has a reputation for noise in the blue channel, and this shot was no
exception. But with a with a couple minutes' work in Photoshop to reduce
the noise, all is well. I sharpened the image a little bit but -- now that
I look at it -- wish I wouldn't have.
Oh yeah -- the bike ride out to the gardens is a nice 25-mile trip through
wooded trails. The starting point is the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve.
