This photo was taken in Bloomington, IL. If
you're not sure what to make of this image, I'll let you off the hook.
It's a storm drain that was installed in a farm field as part of the infrastructure
necessary to accommodate Bloomington's growth, which shows little signs of
abating. In the months since this drain was installed, nature has gone to work,
turning it an interesting rust orange color. Currently, the area is just a
corn field -- maybe I'll visit again in 12 to 24 months to see what will have
developed.
I was actually out trying to capture some shots of the snow-covered corn
field, when I stumbled across this -- a definite attention grabber in the midst
of brown grass. The temperature was pretty harsh, and that really curbed
the battery life of the camera -- about five minutes per set! In fact, the
camera got so cold that it lost all power -- even loosing my custom
settings. So after some time in a freezing field, this is what there is to show for it.
The colors I captured in the original photo weren't accurate, so I spent a
little extra time in Photoshop. I've adjusted the contrast, as well as the
curves.
