This photo was taken in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, along the shores of Lake
Superior.
In this photo, I intended a particular message for the viewer. I wanted
the viewer to slow down, and take time to study the wood -- to resist the
temptation to be distracted elsewhere. The fight against distraction is
everywhere in our world, and I even included some of it in this photo.
This image "battles" for the viewer's attention. The beach has some interesting
trails and pebbles. But focus on them, and you'll miss the intricacy of the
wood. To aid the viewer, I left the sand and pebbles just slightly out of
focus. Ideally, the viewer strays the sand, but quickly realizes that the
wood is more interesting, and a better candidate for closer inspection.
I deliberately over-exposed this image using Photoshop's ChannelMixer. The original was
properly exposed, but didn't focus the viewer. The over-exposure also lends a harhsness
