Abandoned Farmstead Dwight, IL - April 1, 2001 These photos were taken at an abandoned farm site that sits along I-55 between Bloomington and Chicago. I've noticed this site numerous times, but it wasn't until recently that I made time to investigate. Getting there was a little bit of a challenge... The site sits tempting close to the interstate, but takes a little bit of navigation (and a very detailed map) to find the old road that actually leads to it. The buildings' poor conditions, aren't indicative of their age. I estimate that they were built in in the 1950's. It seems strange that a family would have just "walked away" from it, especially considering that it's within 15 minutes of two small towns. My only guess is that the surrounding farm land was somehow acquired, and the homesite paled in comparison to the field's value and was therefore never sold or rented. If anyone recognized the place and has more details, please let me know.
